The Supreme Court ruling on Citizens United has endangered Americas Democracy. This ruling is bound to complicate our way of life and this free democracy. The nation was established by those who were enlightened by thoughts of freedom and social equality. Government was established by the people and for the people not by BP or Google. Corporations are not people and do not deserve the right of the 1st Amendment which is freedom of speech. This ruling gave corporations the right to invest unlimited amounts of money to any political side or state anything about any candidate in politics. In the beginning your thinking there is nothing wrong with companies saying what they want about politicians or giving them money. Well the Supreme Court figured that if they have the right to say what they want now they may as well have the right to invest and do what they want with their money. Yet what they failed to “Governments are established by the people and for the people.” Corporations threaten that statement in every sense of the word you may be wondering how? Money is the answer corporations have more money then you, which makes them more important to candidates then you!
Money is one of the primary aspects in elections and corporations have it all. The sad aspect of all this is that your money is not needed by candidates anymore. Due to the fact he can get double what the city of people of Boston gave him by BP or Exxon so why bother? This opens the gates of special interest since candidates need money and corporations need maximum profit. These large entities are soul less they have no morals or political preferences money is the only language they speak. So in the future president’s will be less concerned with the issues concerning Americans and more focused on Wal-Mart’s issues and problems instead. This also allows foreign corporations that exist in the US to spend without limit on elections. That is defiantly not a positive effect on our democracy but the Supreme Court thinks it is! I hope you see the problems the Supreme Court has led the US into. I think Supreme Court a failed to realize why laws were made to stop corporations from having political influence in the first place. Whatever the case may be it ended sadly. We can only hope for the best as we watch our democracy fall into the hands of corporations

Ahmed,
ReplyDeleteGood writing and strong argument. You also need to include a paragraph dedicated to your opponents viewpoints. Why did the US Supreme Court support this measure? What were they thinking?
Also, you need to list your 3 facts at the bottom of each blog. If you look at the rubric, that's 10 points right there.
